Oklahoma City-County Health Department (OCCHD) is enrolling for our free Total Wellness classes which are an interactive weight loss program for adults to prevent diabetes and heart disease. Classes meet one hour a week for eight weeks. The goal is to lose five percent of your body weight. You do not have to live in Oklahoma County to participate.

 

During the class you will learn how to make healthy choices, change unhealthy behaviors, find time to be more active, lose weight and feel great.

Founded in 1981, Leadership Oklahoma City has trained over 3,500 adult and youth leaders to work toward improving their community.

The strategies by which Leadership Oklahoma City advances the mission are:
  • Educating about the community's needs, resources, and opportunities
  • Training in skills necessary for effective community leadership
  • Connecting people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives with a common interest in community improvement.
The Signature Program is a 10-month-long series of classes, each focusing on a different community issue. A diverse mix of class members complete the program as a group, becoming resources for each other as they learn about community issues. Class members are selected to represent a broad range of occupations and backgrounds.  Applications are due April 5th.

Jan 25    OKC Beautiful Young Professionals Leadership Board Seeks Applications
We are looking for new board members to help lead our OKC Beautiful Young Professionals group. The Leadership Board helps OKC Beautiful plan our young professionals events throughout the year as well as our annual fundraising event "Fall Harvest Fest". We are looking for individuals, ages 22 to 35, who are particularly invested in OKC and the environment. This is an unpaid, volunteer position.
 
Members meet monthly and are young adults representing a broad range of professional backgrounds. The MOB has three main goals: 
Connect. Connecting young professionals to a larger network of peers and established community members. 
Learn. Learning valuable skills while expanding knowledge of new, exciting things happening in OKC. 
Serve. Serving the community through volunteer projects.

Jan 29    Free Hamburger and Hog Dog Dinner/Donations by Resthaven Funeral Home
The current government partial shutdown has affected many families in our community.  Therefore the staff of Resthaven Funeral Home and Memory Gardens wants to help those families who have been affected by this event.  It is time for the Oklahoma Standard to be shown once again, therefore we will be hosting two separate events for families who are in need of food during this time.  

Event One:  We will be hosting an opportunity for the community to donate non-perishable food that will then in turn be available for families to come by and shop for their needs. Donations will be accepted at our Little Chapel of the Roses located in Resthaven Memory Gardens from 10 a.m.  – 3 p.m. each day until the shutdown ends.  At the same time, families of anyone affected by the shutdown will be able to come and shop during these same hours.  Please enter the cemetery south of the intersection of 104thand Western.  

Event Two:   Resthaven Funeral Home and Memory Gardens along with members of the South Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Hamburger/Hot Dog Dinner for families affected by the shutdown.  On Tuesday, January 29, 2019 from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m., families are invited to the Family Center at Resthaven to have a FREE hamburger/hot dog dinner.  At this time families will also receive a free meal that can be taken home and prepared for the family at a later date.  The Resthaven Family Center is located at Southwest 104th Street and Walker. If it was that the shutdown was to be over by the time of the dinner, it will still take place, as we know there will be lasting effects of this event.
