Sep 12    Vote "Yes" on Oklahoma City General Obligation (GO) Bond
Safer Streets; Better OKC - On September 12, voting YES will build a safer, better Oklahoma City.   When you vote YES on Election Day, you will:
  • Invest $847 million in rebuilding and improving Oklahoma City's streets - the top concern of residents. Repairs include replacing bridges, resurfacing streets, building sidewalks, improving drainage, adding bike lanes and more.
  • Hire more police officers and firefighters to keep Oklahoma City residents safe.
  • Improve life in Oklahoma City by investing in parks, police and fire stations, libraries, transit system, community and economic development and more.
These improvements will be made possible with a general obligation bond program and two sales tax proposals. Property tax rates will NOT go up to fund the general obligation bond projects, and when both sales tax proposals are approved by voters, Oklahoma City's total tax will be at the rate of 8.625 percent, lower than the state average of 8.86 percent.

Sep 29    Small Business Tax Basics at the Southwest Oklahoma City Public Library

Join us for a Small Business Tax Basics workshop presented by Dewey Brandon with the Oklahoma Tax Commission.  The Business Tax Workshops offered by the Oklahoma Tax Commission are designed to meet the needs of all business owners, from new businesses to seasoned businesses needing to brush up on the latest tax changes, and everyone in between.

For a new business or an individual thinking about setting up a business in Oklahoma, the workshop offers information on formation, business structures, a step-by-step guide to business registration, and an explanation of the primary business tax forms.  Participants will also learn the keys to sales tax registration and collection along with helpful tips on rate tables, reporting formats and exemptions.

For an existing business, participants will also learn the steps to filling out the various business tax forms and which tax laws have changed based on the latest legislative decisions.  Plenty fo time is allotted for questions with the instructor.
